The World Health Organization, (WHO) is announcing a public competition for the logo design for the new Commission on Social Determinants of Health. The secretariat of the Commission is seeking designs that will be used in all communications, including letterhead, faxes, publications, press materials, Web site, emails, television broadcast materials, and conference presentations. One generic visual appearance is required that can be adapted to each of the applications above, as needed.
The logo must reflect the essence of the Commission. The design can develop from the social factors, which include poverty, gender and ethnic discrimination, education, nutrition, access to water, housing and children's early life conditions. It also must reflect the Commission's global remit or the nature of health in-equalities. For instance, what are the root causes of ill-health and differences in the health of various communities and societies? What are the social conditions that lay behind the high incidence of disease and illness found in some areas, or that make certain communities and populations less healthy than others?
