Data about health expenditure 2018 is published in the Health Statistics and Health Research Database.
Health expenditure as a share of Estonian gross domestic product (GDP) was 6.7%.

Annual data about 2018 diagnostics and therapeutic procedures were published in the Health Statistics and Health Research Database. Radiology examinations data is available also by Hospital Network Development Plan hospitals.
X-rays were performed 850,778 times last year, which is 1% less than in 2017. In 2018, to 37,660 patients 60,565 interventional radiology procedures (biopsies, punctures, radiofrequency ablation, and angiography) were done, which is 9% more than in 2017. The absolute number of functional diagnostics increased by 1.8% compared to 2017. Functional diagnostics were performed 3% more in specialist health care provider and family doctor's offices and 2% more in hospitals than in the previous year. The number of rehabilitation procedures has decreased by 2% over the last two years. The absolute number and coefficient of laboratory analyses have steadily increased over the last four years.

The number of physicians' and nurses' outpatient visits for 2018 is published in Health Statistics and Health Research Database.
The total number of physicians’ outpatient visits decreased by 3.8 percent and number of nurses’ outpatient visits increased by the same amount compared to 2017.
Over 10 million physicians’ and nurses’ outpatient and home visits registered in 2018. Compared to previous year, the number of visits decreased by 1.9 percent, in absolute numbers it is nearly 200,000 visits less.
7.4 million physicians’ and 2.6 million nurses’ outpatient visits were registered, which are 3.8 percent less for physicians and 5.8 percent more for nurses compared to previous year. The number of family physicians’ outpatient visits decreased by 5.8 percent and for the other specialist physicians (gynaecologist, orthopaedist, etc.) it decreased by 1.8 percent.
The number of nurses’ independent outpatient visits increased by 5.8 percent compared to 2017. Two third of nurses’ independent outpatient visits were made by family nurses. 5.7 percent (nearly 80,000 visits) more family nurses’ and 6.5 percent (30,775 visits) more other profession nurses’ (general, rehabilitation, etc.) independent outpatient visits were registered than for 2017. Midwives made almost 7,000 (4.5 percent) more independent outpatient visits.
The number of physicians’ home visits decreased by 12.6 percent and number of nurses’ home visits decreased by 3.8 percent in 2018 compared to 2017. While the number of physicians’ home visits has decreased year by year, then the number of nurses’ home visits decreased for the second time. The last decrease took place in 2009. A total of 31,659 physicians’ home visits was registered, the majority (83 percent) of these were family physicians’ home visits. 505,932 nurses’ home visits were registered, most (95 percent) of these were home nurses’ visits.

At the end of the year 2018, 25 CT scanners, 18 MRI scanners, 3 gamma cameras, including 2 SPECT machines, 11 angiography equipment, 3 lithotripsy equipment, 3 PET scanners, 7 radiotherapy equipment, 14 mammography units, 145 haemodialysis machines, 5 barotherapy chambers, 193 anaesthetic machines and 350 medical ventilators were in use in Estonian hospitals and other health care providers.
The machine park has increased by 1 CT scanner, 2 anaesthetic machines and 8 medical ventilators, and decreased by 1 lithotripsy equipment, 1 mammography unit and 3 haemodialysis machines compared to 2017.
